We have developed techniques for the synthesis of CNT/SiO2 bulk composite and the room temperature coating of CNT with SiOx via a colloidal route. TEM investigation and state-of-the-art EEL spectroscpy of the composite reveals that the CNT are wrapped with SiO2. The colloidal coating leads to a uniform coating of MWNT. Nanocrystalline Si has been detected in the SiOx coating by HRTEM.
